Walt Not Wet (Wide Awake Dub Myx)

Have you ever gotten wet on the log ride?  Did that happen to Walt Disney (d. 1966)?  I have been to both Disneys.  We were rained out of the Dumbo ride a few years ago in Orlando.  I did enjoy the parade.  Disney's scandal regarding employees who committed child sex crimes has come under severe scrutiny lately.  Does this destroy Disney's reputation as being pro-family?

Dan Geffers wore a t-shirt to the Disney World park that read “Hello Boys and Girls, Ladies and Gentlemen” on the back and something like "Walt Not Wet" on the front (rhymes with "choke").  Sadly, Disney Television Animation executive producer Latoya Raveneau bragged about adding gender confusion to kids programming.

What would Mickey Mouse say?

   ♪ "M-I-C-K-E-Y U-R-Not-O-K" ♫

How would Goofy respond?  What was President Obama's take on the family?  Before he was President, Obama (b. 1961) said this during a Father's Day address,

... too many fathers ... [are] missing from too many lives and too many homes. ... [they] have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men.  And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it.  ... children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools and twenty times more likely to end up in prison.[1]

Check out this chart on how the family has been portrayed in Disney films from 1937 to 2017:

The 1960 Disney film Swiss Family Robinson clearly portrays a nuclear family.  In the original story, Der Schweizerische Robinson, they are shipwrecked in the East Indies (Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines - been there 7x).  Remember the scene with Francis and the elephant?  All people groups around the globe are of one blood: "And he made from one man [blood, αίματος] every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. ..." (Acts 17:26,27).  All our ancestry diagrams go back to Noah and ultimately back to Adam.

Nathan Jeanson, who I met in 2010, has a Ph.D. in Cell & Developmental Biology from Harvard.  He shows in his latest book Traced that the spread of humans around the globe fits well with the Genesis as History timeline.  For instance, Scandinavians came from Arabs who came from Nubians who have connections to ancient Egypt.

Maybe Disney should consider the heroes of the Civil Rights era.  Martin Luther King (MLK) said, "We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love. ...We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."  Have you read The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley (Roots)?  Have you seen Spike Lee's film Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington?  Late in life, Malcolm became a traditional Muslim.  Fewer than one percent of Islamic men have more than one wife in countries where it is legal.

Alveda King (MLK's niece) has written King Rules: Ten Truths for You, Your Family, and Our Nation to Prosper.  Here are the chapter titles:

She speaks of the importance of the extended family and reunions: "This premium family interaction is something that was passed down through every generation and remains relevant in our lives now.  When I was young, the family branches often came together for big family dinners."[2]  When was the last time you went to a family reunion?  Do you still have the t-shirt?  Alveda describes her routine with her immediate family, "In the Birth Home there is another room where the family gathered every day, the dining room.  Harmony is good for the digestion, and differences were rarely aired in that room.  Instead, the dining room was a place where delicious meals for the body were served along with food for thought and development of the soul.[3]

Better a little with the fear of the Lord

    than great wealth with turmoil.

Better a small serving of vegetables with love

than a fattened calf with hatred.

A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict,

but the one who is patient calms a quarrel. (Pr. 15:16-18)

If you are looking for a Geffers style t-shirt, I thought this design was rockin' sharp.  Thx to AJC for the Alveda pic. I have been in the offices of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  My father-in-law and sister-in-law used to work there.  I am a former journalist and had the privilege to interview Maya Angelou (d. 2014).
