The Wedding That Never Was

A Riddle ...

My father served in WWII.  My wife is ten years younger than I.  When my parents wed, they were seventeen years apart.  How old am I? (I hope you're laughing).  From Seattle Bride we learn this profound wisdom:

 

The Goldilocks Theory - “The ideal age to get married, with the least likelihood of divorce in the first five years, is 28 to 32,” says Carrie Krawiec, a marriage and family therapist at Birmingham Maple Clinic in Troy, Michigan. “Called the ‘Goldilocks theory,’ the idea is that people at this age are not too old and not too young.”  Krawiec explains that people should be “old enough” to understand the difference between true compatibility and puppy love, yet “young enough” that they’re not set in their ways and unwilling to make adjustments to habits and lifestyle.

 

Where do we get our moral notions regarding nuptial bliss?  According to Nancy Pearcey (Love Thy Body):

 

lf nature is teleological, and the human body is part of nature, then it is likewise  teleological.  It has a built-in purpose, part of which is expressed as the moral law.  We are morally obligated to treat people in a way that helps them fulfill their purpose.  This explains why biblical morality is not arbitrary.  Morality is the guidebook to fulfilling God's original purpose for humanity, the instruction manual for becoming the kind of person God intends us to be, the road map for reaching the human telos.  This is sometimes called natural law ethics because it tells us how to fulfill our true nature, how to become fully human. [1]

 

It is not the purpose or function for babies to have babies.  Babies don't raise other babies and teach them the four R's - Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmetic (Maths) & Religion.  Omniculturalism, which values the true, good and beautiful from all cultures from all time, teaches us that weddings and marriage are proper.  Freddy should not marry a one-year-old. 

 

Do you recall the version of the Golden Rule as stated by Confucius (d. 479 BC)?   "Do not impose on others what you do not wish for yourself."  When I was around twelve years old and living in Northern Virginia, we had a group riding bikes throughout the neighborhood.  One of the younger kids was tragically abducted.  He was later reunited with his parents.  I thank God that I was not the one taken. 

 

You may have heard of the foolishness from Dr. Stephen Kershnar (SUNY -  Fredonia) regarding extreme conjugal relations.  If Kershnar's view becomes widespread, will trafficking and child abduction skyrocket?  Kershnar is the author of Total Collapse: The Case Against Morality and Responsibility.

 

Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father.   Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. (1 Tim. 5:1,2)

Homeschooling Under Attack

According a recent article in Harvard Magazine with the title "The Risks of Homeschooling," teaching your own children at home is bad news:

Elizabeth Bartholet [Harvard Law School] ... sees risks for children - and society - in homeschooling, and recommends a presumptive ban on the practice.   Homeschooling, she says, not only violates children’s right to a “meaningful education” and their right to be protected from potential child abuse, but may keep them from contributing positively to a democratic society.

Bartholet says that it's, "... important that children grow up exposed to community values, social values, democratic values, ideas about nondiscrimination and tolerance of other people’s viewpoints.”  Does that include Darwin Doubters and would she put Is a Young Earth Possible? which advocates Young Earth Theory Intelligence in the library of her ideal school?  Albert Mohler (Southern Seminary) rightly pinpoints the real significance of this Harvard Mag hit piece:

It's a broadside argument to abolish homeschooling and it also basically recommends a complete transformation of American law and morality to remove parental authority and parental choice as the key issues, determining issues in the education of children and instead in the name of children's rights and with an argument based upon especially international law and precedents, call for homeschooling to be basically abolished ...

Kerry McDonald lives near Harvard and wrote Unschooled: Raising Curious, Well-Educated Children Outside the Conventional Classroom.  She is a regular Forbes contributor who earned a Master of Education degree in Education Policy from Harvard!  She submitted a letter to Harvard Magazine critical of the article.  She is a longtime Harvard donor, education researcher, and homeschooling mother of four children.  Here is her appearance on Fox confronting this sad attack on the freedom to homeschool.

Kudos to Dr. Bartholet for being brave and joining a discussion and Q&A session with Kerry McDonald (CATO), Milton Gaither (Education Prof., Messiah College) and Neal McCluskey (CATO).  Gaither wrote Homeschooling: An American History which gives the deep background of the home education movement.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (Deut. 6:6-9)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.  They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. (Pr. 1:7-9)

The Same Sex?

The Same Sex was a book published many decades ago that sought to portray homosexuality in a more positive light.  Now, those who point out the dangers of this alternative lifestyle are tagged H8RS.  As Michael Brown observes:

How far does the Gay Rights Agenda extend?  According to the Gay Rights Platform adopted in Chicago in 1972, we should support the ... 

Chelsen Vicari has a chapter on the same sex dilemma in her book Distortion and quotes Francis Schaeffer, “… the morally unthinkable becomes thinkable as the years move on.” [1]  

Children in alternative lifestyle families often have a number of issues [2]:

God’s plan for the family is the best:

The man [Adam] said,

“This is now bone of my bones,

And flesh of my flesh;

She shall be called Woman,

Because she was taken out of Man.” [Gen. 2:21,22]

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. (Gen. 2:23,24)

Who owns the rainbow?  The rainbow reminds us of the Lord’s promise that a global flood will not destroy the earth again (Gen. 9:11-17).  Here is a great site with info that supports the global catastrophe of Noah’s day.  Read more about rainbows here.
